The Scotsman has announced that it is to launch a compact version of the paper this Saturday.

The new compact will include all the regular Saturday features including a full-colour sports section and the Scotsman magazine. According to a statement issued from the Scotsman Publications offices, the decision to launch a compact version follows research conducted by the paper in which Scotsman readers were asked about their views on how the title should progress.

Iain Martin, editor of the Scotsman, said: “The new Saturday edition of the Scotsman will contain all the authority and substance of the broadsheet while being more convenient. Our research has carefully monitored the views of our readership, and now I want to continue with this dialogue. The readers will be part of this latest development in the long history of Scotland’s national quality newspaper.”

The announcement follows industry speculation that Scotsman rival the Herald is also to launch a compact version.
