Fowlestone: remaining tight-lipped about KLP’s future

Phil Bourne, CEO of KLP Euro RSCG, has confirmed to The Drum that the company is reviewing its Edinburgh office.

In an official statement Bourne stated that: “As part of a restructure required by our parent company, Havas, KLP is reviewing its operations in Edinburgh, in consultation with all staff.”

The statement comes after weeks of speculation that the office was set for closure, following a tough time across the entire Euro RSCG group.

The Edinburgh office of KLP, which recently moved to new premises in York Place, specialises in multiple below-the-line activities, including direct mail and sales promotion. Recently the agency has also expanded into new media.

KLP Euro RSCG is owned by the global Euro RSCG Worldwide network, the fifth largest advertising agency in the world. Euro RSCG operates 233 different offices in 58 countries, and is in turn owned by global marketing giant Havas.

The rumoured closure of KLP Edinburgh is part of a global review of Havas-owned agencies that has seen a number of changes within the network. The company posted a 31 per cent drop in profits in the first half of this year and last month announced that direct marketing network EHS Brann, which is owned by Havas, will be merged with the Euro RSCG group. The company is said to be focusing on streamlining its operations, with particular attention being centred on main companies Euro RSCG, Media Planning Group and Arnold.

It is unknown whether any of the Edinburgh employees will be relocated within the group.

Mark Fowlestone, managing director of KLP Edinburgh, was unavailable for comment on the closure as The Drum went to press.

KLP also has offices in Manchester and London.
