IF: just one of The Union's ads.

One of Scotland’s last major financial advertising accounts could be set to move out of the country after marketing chiefs at direct banking firm Intelligent Finance revealed that it has shortlisted only one Scottish agency for its highly regarded advertising account.

The Union, the account’s long-standing incumbent agency, has been included on a list of five agencies to battle for the account against four London giants, including Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, Campbell Doyle Dye, Delaney Lund Knox Warren and Grey.

If the account, which is thought to be worth around £10m, is to leave Scotland for London, it will follow hot on the heels of the Royal Bank of Scotland business, which left Faulds for London last year.

The Union has handled the Intelligent Finance advertising brief since the launch of the internet bank in 2000.

Initially developing the brand name, The Union has gone on to create a number of high-profile advertising campaigns for the company and has won a clutch of IPA effectiveness awards for its work.

The advertising review follows the appointment of Duncan Movassaghi as IF’s new marketing director. Movassaghi joined from IF’s parent company, Halifax, earlier this year.

A spokesperson for the client said: “After a series of credential presentations involving agencies from across the UK, Intelligent Finance has now shortlisted five agencies to pitch for its creative advertising business.”

The spokesperson added that an announcement as to the successful agency will be made before the end of the year.
