Manchester’s former Reform Club will open its door on a new restaurant concept in early September – Hurricane Bar & Grill, designed by Edinburgh-based design agency Skakel & Skakel.

Hurricane Manchester follows the success of the original Hurricane launched in Edinburgh last year by entrepreneur Liz McAreavey, which was also designed by the Edinburgh agency.

Skakel & Skakel has contrasted many of the original features of the building, such as the ornate vaulted timber ceiling with a clean contemporary design scheme.

Skakel & Skakel Design Director Andrew Skakel commented: "We wanted to create something special with Hurricane – combining the personality of the original Reform Club and being respectful of its unique interior, but also introducing elements that move the style of the space very much into the 21st century.

"Apparently Winston Churchill delivered a keynote speech here – we like to think he’d be happy relaxing in one of our sumptuous leather chairs with a drink in his hand."

Liz McAreavey, chief executive of Hurricane Restaurants, added: " There’s such a really great feel about the place. We’ve brought a fantastic bunch of people on board and can’t wait to open. Once again Skakel & Skakel has come up trumps with the design – having worked so well together on Edinburgh they seem able to understand and anticipate exactly the way I’m thinking."
