Etherington: appointed to help Abacus TIW\'s expansion plans.

Two Jersey-based advertising agencies have merged their operations and are already anticipating growth for the merged business, with additional offices planned for Dublin, the Isle of Man and Guernsey.

Ross Abacus and The Idea Works will now form Ross Abacus TIW and will operate out of Abacus’ St Helier-based offices.

The merger makes the business the only fully recognised independent advertising agency on the island.

No jobs will be lost through the deal and directors are anticipating a recruitment drive to get the agency up to full strength.

The principals of The Idea Works, managing director Richard Lumborg and creative director Martyn Aubert, will continue in their current roles at the new company. Giles Etherington and John Ross of Ross Abacus have been appointed executive creative director and chief executive respectively. Chris Still will continue in his role as chairman of the expanded agency.

The move comes shortly after Etherington was appointed creative director at Ross Abacus, after a career which has seen him working at London’s Grey Advertising, JWT, Euro RSCG in Amsterdam and, most recently, at Saatchi & Saatchi on a Pampers campaign.

Other clients Etherington has worked with include Kellogg’s, Andrex, Nintendo, NatWest, Barclays and BT.

Ross said: “To have attracted an agency creative professional of Giles’ calibre to Jersey is a major coup for the company. Our aim is to use his experience to help us set up subsidiary agencies in Isle of Man, Dublin and Guernsey in the near future and to move forward quickly with our expansion plans.”

Speaking of the merger, Ross said: “With the merger of skills in each agency we can now offer clients increased levels of service and innovative creative solutions for local, national and international marketing communications.”

The agency handles clients in the financial services, tourism, travel, consumer and government sectors.
