John Kettley, one of the undisputed giants of UK weather forecasting, has teamed up with Ross Frozen Burgers and Tesco\'s to devise a formula to predict frozen burger sales as the population enters the traditionally frenzied barbecuing season. The formula should allow Ross and Tesco to plan tactical marketing activity and optimum stock levels.

Kettley, currently the commanding voice of Radio 5 Live\'s weather forecasts, has created a formula that rates weather factors that contribute to provide perfect BBQ weather, thus giving an index score. If that score is between 30 and 35, then, apparently, perfect barbecuing weather is guaranteed.

Commenting on why Ross commissioned Kettley for the job, marketing manager Julia Bradshaw said, \" We wanted to devise a model for predicting sales of Ross Burgers at Tesco according to the weather. Clearly burgers are a key component of any barbecue, which is a highly weather dependent activity.\"

Kettley himself added, \" The weather plays a very important factor in affecting the sales of many products and services. By providing Ross and Tesco with a formula to identify perfect barbecue weather in advance, they can plan so much more effectively. The accuracy of modern forecasting techniques and the wide availability of data means that companies can be much more confident in weather forecasting as a component of sales forecasting.\"
