MG Rover’s sales and marketing director, John Sanders has quit his post at the car manufacturer in order to go it alone.

Sanders has plans to set-up a marketing consultancy at a Midlands base, and hopes to be doing business by September.

He joined the firm in 1998 and has spearheaded Rover’s marketing strategy since the firm was bought by The Phoenix Consortium from BMW that year.

Prior to his five years with MG Rover, Sanders worked as group account director and deputy managing director at Lowe Broadway and worked for Renault between 1987 and 1997.

At the time of going to press Sanders was unavailable to comment further on his plans.
