Glasgow promoters join forces for latest Glasgow radio bid

Radio group GWR have been the latest radio station to announce that they are to bid for the forthcoming Glasgow radio licence, in partnership with some of Glasgow’s most prominent concert promoters.
The bid will see the radio group team up with DF Concerts, Cathouse Promotions Ltd and ChannelFly in the bid for a rock station aimed at 15 – 44 year olds, to be called Storm FM.
The bid, which is costing around £12,500 to make, will consist of roughly seventy per cent music with the remaining thirty per cent being speech based. A decision is due to be made later in the year.
Announcing the bid, CEO of DF Concerts, Geoff Ellis said, “We believe that we have the strongest bids for the Glasgow licence. It is no surprise that others like virgin are putting forward bids, as it backs up the need we have identified for a purely rock station. We can offer something different however, with unparalleled access from all of our concerts, and help to support local and unsigned bands.
Ellis continued, stating that the bid had received support from a variety of rock bands including Idlewild, Primal Scream and the Fun Lovin' Criminals. “We will be based in Glasgow, either within the city centre or at Glasgow Harbour. The makeup of the station will be based around what is happening currently within Glasgow, offering something that is not currently available.”
