Sainsbury’s Bank, the rapidly growing joint venture between the supermarket chain and Halifax Bank of Scotland, has revealed that it is currently reviewing its roster of agencies.

The review covers aspects of marketing, including Web design, merchandising and media, calling into question Universal McCann Manchester’s tenure of the £4m planning and buying brief.

McCann Erickson Manchester also handles DM, CRM and digital media for Sainsbury’s Bank, but an official statement released by the institution suggested that this relationship would be “supplemented” rather than replaced. There were no such assurances regarding the media brief.

A spokesperson for the firm commented, “We can’t give out any details of the review process at this stage other than to confirm that it is going on.” They added that appointments would be made in May.

The review process has apparently been necessitated by the bank’s expansion.
