The Midlands is to become the focus of a major tourism drive in the coming months, led by an alliance of tourism offices and regional development agencies.

Regional tourist board Visit Heart of England and regional development agencies Advantage West Midlands and the East Midlands Development Agency are to work closely together to promote the Midlands to both visitors and the media, as well as advising Midlands-based companies on how best to market themselves.

Advantage West Midlands and the East Midlands Development Agency are also setting ‘strategic tourism boards’ throughout the Midlands to develop new ways of attracting tourists and making sure they make the most of their stay.

Sir William Lawrence, chairman of Visit Heart of England, said: “This just makes good sense and I welcome the recognition that has been given to tourism as a key player in regional economic development. We will continue to work with Advantage West Midlands and EMDA to implement the best solutions to both increase visitors to our region as well as to improve the experiences they have.”
