Speculation is increasing that Curious Oranj’s advertising division, Co2, is the favourite to win the Belhaven ad account, which is currently up for review.

The newly formed Glasgow-based agency is joined by The Union, Arc and incumbent agency Citigate Smarts on the pitch list. Smarts has held the account for the past three years.

It is understood that marketing consultancy Circuit Break, headed up by former Tennent’s marketing boss Gordon Brown, is advising Belhaven during the pitch process. Brown is also a non-executive director of Curious Oranj.

A definite decision is expected by the middle of next week.

Meanwhile Old Pulteney has appointed Curious Oranj to develop a new brand strategy for the 12 year old single malt.

The agency will undertake a major review of the brand, which is produced by Inver House Distillers, examining all areas of its current market position and assessing ways of building upon core strengths.

Old Pulteney is currently performing well in the marketplace, particularly in the on-trade sector, with total sales up by six per cent over the last year, with the malt winning 38 new accounts in some of the most exclusive bars and restaurants in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
