bmi, the UK's second largest full service airline, has appointed Edinburgh-based Navigator Responsive Advertising to its roster of marketing agencies, after a competitive pitch. The announcement sees Navigator reunited with the airline formerly known as British Midland after a three-year period apart.

Navigator and its then sister company Faulds worked with British Midland up until it moved its advertising and direct marketing business out of Scotland in 1999. Navigator now joins a roster of agencies that also includes Partners Andrews Aldridge, True North, Astron Design and chc choir. The contract will last for twelve months and Navigator is as yet unclear what parts of the airline's business it will work on, though managing director Andy Carolan says that details will be confirmed shortly.

Speaking of the appointment, Simon Gregory, marketing director of bmi, said: "The new roster gives the bmi marketing team access to a range of agencies all offering their own blend of expertise and knowledge, which we are confident will encourage new ideas and a fresh approach."

The bmi win rounds out what has been a successful year for the agency since its MBO in December. This year it has won Intelligent Finance, The Famous Grouse and HBOS. Navigator's client services director Yvonne Hutchison said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be included in the roster. It was a very competitive pitch and we are delighted with the outcome. We are looking forward to finding out more about our remit and can¹t wait to get started."
