SMG' wins top Newspaper Society award

SMG Newspapers was named Advertising Publishing Centre of the Year at the Newspaper Society Advertising Awards 2002 on Tuesday evening.

Individual awards included Best Client Sponsorship package for the Sunday Herald and VisitScotland and Best Motors Section or Supplement in the Herald for its New Car Review and Best Advertorial.

Advertising sales director Paul Genasi was at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole to collect the awards.

He said: “This is absolutely great news for SMG Newspapers and I believe it is the first time the company has won this award. It is real recognition of for all the good work that the advertising teams here at SMG do.”

The award comes at an opportune time as SMG’s newspaper titles the Herald, the Sunday Herald and the Evening Times are currently up for sale with more than 20 interested parties all expected to lodge takeover bids.

SMG also received commendations in a number of other categories.
