Next week sees the launch of another new glossy business magazine into the already crowded business publication market in Scotland.

The new quarterly magazine, Scotland Means Business, is being launched by the Daily Record and will be aimed at budding entrepreneurs and small businesses. The first issue will be included with the newspaper on 21 March and the 40-page magazine will provide practical advice to those wanting to set up in business as well as a step-by-step guide on raising finance, sales and marketing.

The launch comes in response to growing concerns amongst Scotland's business community that Scotland is failing to produce the same rate of entrepreneurs and new business start-ups compared to the rest of the UK.

The Daily Record and Sunday Mail invested in research which showed that 400,000 Scots have considered launching their own business, but only a mere 17 per cent of them have seriously investigated the possibility. A fear of failure is cited as the biggest turn-off for most people.

The magazine will be edited by Magnus Gardham, the Daily Record political reporter, who will continue to work on the newspaper while editing Scotland Means Business.

It is hoped the magazine will provide advertisers in Scotland with direct access to the next generation of entrepreneurs, a market three times more likely to read the Daily Record than both the Herald and Scotsman combined.
