Role description

eCommerce Developers are responsible for the analysis, design, documentation, and programming of eCommerce solutions. This is a highly collaborative role working closely with both external clients and internal, cross-functional teams on projects. eCommerce developers use advanced communication skills to facilitate dialogue between internal and external clients and teams, as well as communication of technical information, functionality, and limitations to non-technical teams.


eCommerce Developers will have responsibility for:

  • Liaise with Business Analysts to interpret business requirements and create high quality agile technical specifications
  • Writes product specifications and design documentation for system components. Organises review and/or release of documentation when required
  • Assumes responsibility for estimating and planning the delivery of significant components of eCommerce solutions, under the supervision of an engagement/project manager
  • Defines design and development standards adapted to the project context
  • To develop software components that meet the quality and architectural standards agreed for the team, including the documentation and implementation of unit test plans, scripts and test harnesses
  • Demonstrate or present delivered functionality to Deloitte and/or client teams
  • Work across the entire delivery life cycle, including the identification and resolution of software defects during test execution phases
  • Support effective configuration and release management of software delivered
  • Initiates communication with members of other teams and other members of development to ensure effective implementation


To qualify for the role you must have:

  • Has delivered at least one eCommerce solution, through to deployment and go-live, preferably in an agile development team
  • Experience of design & implementation of market leading packages in the following functional areas:
    • Commerce (Oracle ATG, hybris, IBM WebSphere Commerce Server or similar)
  • A good graduate degree (1st or Upper Second) combined with post-graduate experience in consulting or industry
  • The right to live and work in the UK

Additional desirable experience includes:

  • Capable of interfacing with clients and managing their demands and expectations
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work independently as well in a highly collaborative, team-based environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Attention to detail and good problem-solving skills
  • Experience of software testing processes including the creation and execution of test scripts.
  • Experience with continuous integration and testing tools
  • Interest in developing the organisation, building and documenting processes, and evaluating tools
  • Knowledge of good practice around usability, maintainability and accessibility
  • Experience of design & implementation of market leading packages in the following functional areas:
    • Search & merchandising (Oracle Endeca, Fredhopper or similar)
    • Content management (Adobe CQ, OpenText ECM, Oracle WebCenter or similar)
    • Order management (IBM Sterling Order Management, Manhattan Order Lifecycle Management or similar)
    • Product information management (hybris, Heiler, Stibo or similar)
    • Digital asset management (Adobe CQ, OpentText Media Management, Oracle WebCenter or similar)
