Design and layout

This is an exciting new opportunity for a creative designer with magazine experience to join a small team at Holyrood Communications Ltd based in Edinburgh.

You will be working hand in hand with our publications, editorial and conference teams on a portfolio of award winning titles including our flagship title Holyrood magazine and creating concepts and artwork for our conferences including brochures and marketing materials delivered in hard and electronic format via our website www.holyrood.com.

Exceptional internal and external communications skills are expected as you will be working with in house teams to tight deadlines and be expected to project manage ever changing departmental requirements following work-flow processes with a high degree of quality control.

Key tasks:
•The confidence to take briefs from department heads whilst advising them on the best possible style and design within agreed time lines and corporate guidelines
•To be able to creatively interpret and art direct these briefs preempting all potential problems
•Design layout and project manage a high profile political magazine and supplementary products
•Ensure all conference, corporate and other required collateral is produced and delivered on time
•To guide and develop the use of templated materials with other members of the team and external suppliers when required
•Delivering right first time on all projects correctly, on brand and error free

Skills:
•Experience of working to tight deadlines in a high end magazine production and design department
•Workflow and project management across large and small jobs from concept through to final delivery
•A passion for magazines, magazine design and layout and typography
•Expert and technical knowledge of Advanced Adobe In design, Photoshop, Illustrator and other creative packages
•Good understanding of professional offset, short run print and digital print processes including pre-flight checking
•An interest in digital design web HTML, email and flash desirable
•Absolute accuracy and attention to all detail
•Proofing experience desirable.
