During tonight’s ‘Claps for Carers’ at 8PM (16 April), ITV is applying its newfound tactic of halting live TV to deliver a poignant message back from those working on the frontline against the coronavirus pandemic.

Hailing directly from doctors, nurses and care staff, the tribute will see the NHS workers thank the UK public for staying indoors and offering their support and love during this national crisis.

Reminding people to look after their mental wellbeing in lockdown, the workers advise the UK public to stay at home but also stay in touch.

The tribute culminates with health care workers clapping so that it appears in unison with those clapping on the streets.

NHS Charities Together and ITV hope the film will be shared beyond the moment itself in order to spread the message. It will dovetail with ITV's NHS Day that works to highlight the vital work of Britain's health service workers in tackling the coronavirus.

The moment is part of the recently re-launched mental wellness initiative from the broadcaster, Britain Get Talking, supported by charities MIND and YoungMinds. The campaign continues to encourage viewers to share their messages of love and support, more than three million people have taken immediate action to talk to someone.
