Embracing the vogue for silent film in the era of audio-optional ads on social media, Sleek Machine have created a silent video campaign for SimpliSafe Home Security.

The new campaign, releasing in December as promoted social video, shows homeowners literally trapped in a series of silent films, dealing with antiquated home security issues. To create the aesthetic, Sleek Machine re-created the lighting and makeup effects of the silent film era, and directed the talent in an over-the-top manner. Zero / Boston, VFX partner, clipped the video highlights and shadows, added a 1930s-era 4:3 film gate, and simulated projector artifacts like grain, dust and scratches to achieve a vintage look.

Composer Tom Skyrme ran the ragtime piano through a vinyl emulator to recreate the effect of an old 78rpm record player from the 1930’s to mimic audio qualities of that film era (should the viewer click the audio).
