Oddbins Crouch End staff member suspended after tweeting champagne offer for those who want to ‘celebrate’ after Margaret Thatcher's death

Oddbins Crouch End Twitter feed came up with an unusual way to market itself following the death of Margaret Thatcher: offering money off champagne.

Now deleted, the tweet said that the store had money off Taittinger, in case ‘anyone feels like celebrating’.

A spokesperson for Oddbins, said: "The tweet in question was made by a member of branch staff without the approval or knowledge of the company's management. The tweet was completely inappropriate and in the worst possible taste. We would like to apologise profusely for the offence it has quite rightly caused. The member of staff responsible has been suspended with immediate effect pending a disciplinary hearing."

Oddbins was not the only Twitter feed to use the news as a marketing strategy: Mangal 2 did as well.
